Figures are the standard monthly rate an adult pays on each club's cheapest general plan.
Standard monthly membership for an individual runs from £43 at Bolton (Total Fitness) on Off Peak to £459 at Chelsea (Harbour Club) on Club Platinum. The typical club charges £89 a month for its cheapest adult plan. Every club sets its own rates, so the club page is the figure that matters.
Usually yes. Joining fees on standard plans currently range from nothing to £1,555; the most common fee is £150. Clubs run joining-fee offers regularly, and those appear on the plan itself on each club page.
Aintree-Sefton (Total Fitness) from £43 a month on Off Peak; Bolton (Total Fitness) from £43 a month on Off Peak; Lincoln (Total Fitness) from £43 a month on Off Peak. These are standard individual rates on the club's cheapest general plan.
Mayfair (Third Space), from £345 a month; Chelsea (Third Space), from £345 a month; Chelsea (Harbour Club), from £309 a month. The priciest clubs are in London and at the top of each chain's tier ladder, where membership also reaches the widest set of other clubs.
A short contract costs more per month than the longest one. Club Platinum at David Lloyd typically runs £194 a month against £169 on the longest commitment; Adult at Virgin Active typically runs £162 a month against £120 on the longest commitment; Anytime at Nuffield Health typically runs £98 a month against £79 on the longest commitment; and Club at Total Fitness typically runs £75 a month against £58 on the longest commitment.
Club Platinum at David Lloyd typically costs £1,927 up front against £2,028 spread over twelve payments, saving around £101; Adult at Virgin Active costs the same either way, £1,440 a year; and Anytime at Nuffield Health typically costs £895 up front against £948 spread over twelve payments, saving around £53. Each club is priced on its own facilities, location and tier. David Lloyd and Virgin Active group their clubs into tiers, and a membership at a higher-tier club lets you use more of the chain's other clubs, which is part of what you pay for. Rack Rate shows each club's tier next to its prices.
